2008-2009 PA-SWAT Priorities

Prevention Priorities

•  Promote Social Norms Campaign and actively surveying to keep current. 
•  Allow community and other organizations to be involved and support initiatives to fight together.
• Increase diverse communication through technology and resources on campus and community and have readily available and network ideas. 
•  Maintain focus on campus while extending positive prevention programs to local schools and community.
• Establish and promote prevention programs on campus for smoking and second hand smoking.
• Target reasons why people smoke and provide alternatives to the reason. 
•   Provide information immediately for new students on campus (Freshman orientation)
• Increase the number of participants on the campus task force.
• Increase public relations awareness and education to connect with students.

 Policy Priorities

• Become a recognized organization on each campus.
• Preserve/establish a positive school image.
• Terminate the sale of tobacco on campus.
• Create an awareness of current tobacco policies to promote compliance.
•  Advocate for & establish the enforcement of new & current tobacco policies campus wide on each campus.
• Encourage the establishment of a policy task force on each campus based on the opinions of students for what is needed (i.e., faculty, staff & non-S.W.A.T. members)
•  Work forward establishing smoke free or designated smoking areas on campus.
•   Create visible & visually clear designated smoking areas to ensure compliance.
• Terminate tobacco sponsored events held on campus.

Cessation Priorities

• Establish Cessation program at every campus
• Promote Awareness of program and dangers of smoking
•  Certification for every PA-SWAT member
• Purchase Carbon monoxide testers at every school
• Utilize campus resources
• Quit kit availability
• Collaboration with community
• Establish and Offer Individual or group therapy
•  Update program and information
• Identify other resources
